WECer detained in Senegal

The Wolof people of Senegal are seeking to know the Lord, while a WEC church planter remains under arrest after being falsely accused of theft.

Richard Shawyer, who has been awaiting trial in Senegal for ten months, said there is a spiritual hunger among the Wolof people.

A local believer, Pap, is visiting a Wolof village on a regular basis and has become a strategic evangelist to the Wolof people.

“A missionary who accompanied Pap recently testified to the spiritual hunger that exists in the guys there,” said Richard.

“They understand the gospel clearly, so pray that they will take the courageous step of deciding to follow Jesus openly.” Other have also shown an interest in the gospel.

My Heads Whirling

I promised to let you know what happened at the Sufi musicians performance. Amazing, the hall was filled and the enchantment began as chanting and music began. The presentation and music were beautiful, much of it repetitious in the same way as a Pentecostal praise time can be repetitious. Often the name of Allah would be chanted. Allah is the Arabic word for God.

Understanding Others

Tonight I'm going to a performance of Syrian Sufi musicians and a presentation of dance including whirling based on the whirling dervishes, a 700 year old rite of the Mevlevi sect of Sufism. The performers do this to demonstrate their love for the Creator. I am going to learn about and appreciate another faith. I am a bit uneasy as the whole concept is outside my experience.
